Samantha writes asking for Bathroom Accessories

Samantha sent us a series of images ( always helpful) of her master bathroom in her new home. Without completely renovating the space she has asked that we help her make some changes to fixtures and accessories.

Bathrooms are important spaces within a household. A bathroom is a place for rejuvenation and relaxation. In planning the interior aesthetic of your bathroom, you must therefore consider the elements rich best help you relax and bring balance to your day. For Samantha’s grey and white bathroom, which she wants to update without doing any major construction or retiling, we suggest a couple things;

1- Use your existing color palette as a backdrop to anything you do. We suggest adding dark charcoal grey and black to the existing palette to make the space young, current and edgy.

2- Remember, whatever you add or replace now, must be elements you love, so that once you get the opportunity to retile, the elements which you purchase now will be reused. Think of this as your 1st phase of renovation for this space.

So let’s start with the plumbing fixtures;

– We suggest replacing all plumbing fixtures and removing the bidet all together. Samantha states that she has no use for the bidet and so we feel that a lovely towel rack with additional counter storage http://www.westelm.com/shop/bedding-bath/bath-all/?cm_type=lnav, which would make much better use of this space and would be extremely useful. The Kohler Escale Pedestal along with a water sense labeled Kohler toilet http://www.us.kohler.com/index.jsp.

Next…Additional storage:

– We love West Elm’s box mirrored shelves. These would look fabulous and add some much needed storage space in this bathroom. http://www.westelm.com/products/box-mirror-shelves-w587/?pkey=cbath-all

– A white lacquered  hamper http://www.westelm.com/shop/bedding-bath/bath-all/?cm_type=lnav

Textiles:

– Bath Matt: We would love to use a large black bath matt to add some depth to the color palette like this recycled jersey bath matt from West Elm. http://www.westelm.com/products/recycled-jersey-bath-mat-b576/?pkey=cbath-all

– Shower Curtain: A great graphic print black and white curtain is a must!

Accessories

– We suggest adding fun useful elements such as a graphic print tumblers and white lacquered bathroom accessories http://www.westelm.com/shop/bedding-bath/bath-all/?cm_type=lnav. Some colored lacquered wall hooks would also add interest. http://www.westelm.com/shop/bedding-bath/bath-all/?cm_type=lnav

SO Sam, that’s a start but just remember that when you are ready for phase 2…we are here and would love to suggest some fab wall finishes to replace your tiles!

  1. Stephanopoulos from Greece says:

    Do you have any suggestions for a bathroom-mirror that is both contemporary and practical – enough to store the necessary toiletries while being an aesthetic addition to my mediterranean bathroom? The mirror will be placed on the wall directly opposite a large picture-window framing the Aegean Sea. Do you ship to Greece?

    P.S. Samantha, I didn’t realise that bidets were still available today, very retro, don’t you think Kaytreenah?

    αντίο,
    Stephanopoulos

    • HI Stephanopoulos! I love Greece! Okay, I suggest a Kohler medicine cabinet mirror. A frameless, completely mirrored, minimalist medicine cabinet mirror will save space while providing storage and serve as an object to reflect that gorgeous view!

    Hey Kaytreenah! I am an 19 yr old guy from michigan but my grandparents are italian… Looking to do a bit of chopping and changing of my college dorm; a fab way to mark the new term and the new me! Dorm is 12 by 10 ft and painted in boring beige. Was hoping you could help me bring it to life and find the certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ i’v been missing. Open to any ideas, can’t wait for you to write me back.
    P.S: love the suggestions for samantha’s bathroom.
    Ciao bella!

    • Hi Starfish. Well the first thing that I would suggest is that you find out about the rules at your dorm. Find out exactly what you can change within your dorm room. I wasn’t able to paint the walls in my dorm room, despite my desperate attempts to do so. I do however suggest that you have some fun with some easily removed elements. There is a great product out by WALLTALKERS, called Magline http://www.walltalkers.com/products/mag-line.asp that you can have loads of fun with. Magline is a vinyl wall covering that can be used as either a dry erase board or a magnetic board. Take this on as a project. Simply purchase chipboard sheets, apply the magline vinyl to each sheet and have them all framed in brightly colored frames. Do a series of different Magline boards in all different dimensions and literally cover your walls in them or create interesting compositions. Not only will this add color to your space, but now you can attach interesting colorful imagery to each framed board with the simple use of a magnet and completely change the look of your dorm room as often as you like. From a static room, to an evolving work of art, your dorm room will come to life and make a great place for pictionary parties!

      HOPE THAT HELPS!

    • Another fun suggestion to totally transform your room, is the use of wall pops, wall-pops.com . Wall pops are fun vinyl stickers which are totally removable and can be applied on your walls in great graphic bold prints! Either way, enjoy the process and send us images of what you’ve done!
